- Discussion of the reasons for being referred
- Construction of a pedigree and taking a complete personal and family medical history
- Risk assessment for occurrence or recurrence of a particular genetic disorder
- Provision and interpretation of information about the particular genetic disorder
- Explanation of available genetic testing as well as surveillance and treatment options
- Provision of supportive counseling
- Referrals to other medical, health and support services
